Community Involvement

  • Urban Land Institute (ULI) Sacramento District Council

As the preeminent, multidisciplinary real estate forum, ULI facilitates the open exchange of ideas, information and experience among local, national and international industry leaders and policy makers dedicated to creating better places. Mr. Hodgson served as the Sacramento District Council Chair.

  • North State Building Industry Association (BIA)

The North State Building Industry Association is a community-based organization representing more than 1,000 homebuilder and associate members. Mr. Hodgson served three terms as Chair of the Sacramento Council and is current chair of it’s Urban Infill Group.

  • Downtown Sacramento Partnership

The Hodgson Company assisted in the creation of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership which is dedicated to the improvement of Sacramento’s central business district. John Hodgson played a key role in the passage of state legislation enabling communities to form Property Business Improvement Districts (PBIDs) in California, which have been used successfully in the revitalization of existing neighborhoods throughout California. Mr. Hodgson currently serves on the Board of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership and serves on its Governance Committee.

  • Midtown Association

The Midtown Business Association represents businesses and property owners in Midtown Sacramento. It provides advocacy, marketing, maintenance and security services for the Midtown community. Its vision is to provide artists, businesses, entertainment venues and residents a space to prosper and flourish as a Midtown community. Mr. Hodgson serves as a current Board member and it’s Executive Committee.

  • Capital Area Development Authority (CADA)

John Hodgson was appointed by Governor Pete Wilson to serve as a member of CADA in 1995 and served as its chair through 2002. During his tenure, CADA took major steps in the development of new housing and retail projects in midtown Sacramento. Mr. Hodgson is credited with assisting in the revitalization of midtown Sacramento.

  • South Sacramento County Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP)

Mr. Hodgson served as voluntary chair of this effort to create a Habitat Conservation Plan for southern Sacramento County. The Plan involves finding reasonable solutions that meet wetlands and endangered species requirements while allowing the responsible development of new communities. Adoption of this HCP is considered critical to needed major infrastructure in Sacramento County.
