John Hodgson II, founder and president of the
Hodgson Company
John H. Hodgson
has spearheaded numerous residential and commercial master-planned
projects throughout the greater Sacramento Valley area. He has served
as team leader, advocate and project manager for many
large property owner groups developing over 10,000 acres. He
also has a strong interest in urban revitalization and mixed-used
development in the urban centers of the region.
Mr. Hodgson has
experience both as a principal and consultant to major property and
land development projects in the greater Sacramento and Northern
California region including serving as team leader and land use
attorney for the Laguna Ridge Specific Plan, the newest master-planned
community in the City of Elk Grove comprised of 1750 acres including
250 acres of mixed use. He was the team leader for the Elverta Specific Plan in northern Sacramento
County, a project of nearly 1900 acres of mixed use including a town
center, an “urban core” of 25 acres, numerous green features and a
diversity of housing types.
Prior to
establishing The Hodgson Company in 1991 Mr. Hodgson was a founding
partner in the law firm of Nielsen, Merksamer,
Hodgson, Parrinello
& Mueller with offices in Sacramento and San Rafael. He represented
political organizations and trade associations and was active in numerous
political campaigns. Early in his career he served as General Counsel
to the California Republican Party.
John is active in
both civic and volunteer organizations. He is a Full Member of the
Urban Land Institute (ULI) and recently served as Chair of the ULI
Sacramento District Council. He was appointed by Governor Pete Wilson
and served six years as the Chair of the Capital Area Development
Authority (CADA) which is responsible for development of the 42 square
blocks surrounding the State Capitol in downtown Sacramento and is
credited with contributing to the recent revitalization of Midtown
Sacramento. He was an appointee of Mayor Joe Serna to the Capitol Area
Committee. He was recently selected by Mayor Kevin Johnson to be one of
Sacramento’s 2010-2011 ULI Daniel Rose Fellows. John is one of only 16
persons selected throughout the nation to participate in this year-long
program which is intended to benefit individual fellows through
leadership training and professional development opportunities, and
benefit their respective cities through technical assistance on a local
land use challenge.
John currently
serves as chair of the South Sacramento Habitat Conservation Plan
(SSHCP) a proposed 374,000 acre comprehensive plan addressing urban
development and habitat preservation. He has chaired both the
Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce Land Use & Natural Resources
Committee and the Metro Chamber’s Cap to Cap Land Use team. He also
served several terms as Chair of the Sacramento Council of the North
State Building Industry Association. He is a member of the State Bar of
California and numerous civic organizations. John received in 2005 the
Peter A. McCuen Award for Civic Entrepreneur
awarded by the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce. He also received
the Winslow award for outstanding male graduate, U.C. Davis, College of
Letters & Science. (1969).
